Submission of assessment items
Extensions & Late submissions
Technology related reasons can not be used to support/justify a late submission.
Students can use the draft drop boxes to review their assignments for academic integrity purposes. Academic integrity reports might take up to 24 hours. This step is optional, and the students must ensure that their final submission is uploaded in the assignment's drop box by the due date and time.
Students are required to monitor their student email account regarding approval or rejection of the extension request.
Special assessment requirements
Drop in Sessions
Drop in sessions will be scheduled throughout the semester to provide support to student in completing assessment items. By attending these sessions, students will have the opportunity to:
- Clarify the requirements of the assessment item
- Understand the marking rubric
- Receive feedback regarding the general structure of their intended response.
Teaching staff will not review drafts or provide specific feedback on the content of student work.
Clarification regarding assessment tasks can also be obtained by posting on Canvas discussion boards. Questions raised on discussion boards within 48 hours of the assessment due date/time might not be responded to be teaching staff.
Staff will not respond to assessment task questions raised by email.

Use of Text-Matching Software
The University of Canberra uses text-matching software to help students and staff reduce plagiarism and improve understanding of academic integrity. The software matches submitted text in student assignments against material from various sources: the internet, published books and journals, and previously submitted student texts.
A copy of the procedures used by the Occupational Therapy discipline at UC is available on Canvas (see ASSIGNMENTS).
Once marking and moderation have been completed, students will receive their marks and appropriate feedback. If a student would like to receive further feedback, they are invited to book a time with the unit convener.
Inclusion and engagement
Some of the topics in this unit might be compelling or stressful for some of the students, e.g. complex health conditions in children and adolescents. Students can access the free counseling service on campus. See information about the Medical and Counselling centre on the UC website or visit the Centre on Building 1, Level B to book an appointment.
It is essential that students actively participate in all lectures and tutorials.
Such participation is required by students in order to meet the Australian Occupational Therapy Competency Standards (2018).
Therefore, except in the case of extenuating circumstances, 100% attendance at all face to face classes is expected.
It is also expected that if students are unable to meet these participation requirements they inform the Unit Convener as soon as practical, by telephone or email.
Required IT skills
The unit utilises the online learning site -Canvas- to provide students with access to readings, learning activities, and communication about the unit. It is expected that students will have basic word processing skills, an ability to use databases to search for journal articles, and regularly access Canvas and their UC email account.
Lecturers will communicate with all students via their UC email account and announcements on Canvas. It is the students' responsibility to regularly check their email and Canvas for messages, information and or instructions.
Assessment Task 2 requires familiarity with PowerPoint, including narration functions.
Work placement, internships or practicums
Submission of Assignments: All assessments must be submitted via the dropbox on Canvas.
You must keep a copy of all your assignments.
Unless otherwise advised in the assessment instructions, written assessment pieces must conform to the folowing APA 7th edition requirements:
- Font size: 12 pt – Times New Roman, Calibri or Arial
- Line spacing: double
- Headings: in bold, maximum size 16 pt.
- Margins: no less than 2.54cm on all sides.
- Page numbers: at bottom right hand corner of footer.
- Student identification number: (number only) at top right hand corner of header.

- Word or time length / number of pages will be specified as required. The examiner will stop reading, watching or listening when the allocated word or time limit is reached. Content beyond the word or time limit will not be assessed.
In the course of studying occupational therapy, students may be exposed to clinical scenarios and situations that may be stressful. At UC a free Counselling Service is available for all students.
