Learning outcomes
On successfully completing the unit, students will be able to:1. Understand the basics of NUIs;
2. Understand how NUIs are formed and represented;
3. Understand the concepts of fundamental theories in NUI;
4. Write programs for performing NUI tasks;
5. Choose appropriate NUI techniques to solve real-world problems;
6. Understand the relationships between NUI and fields such as biometric recognition, artificial intelligence and pattern recognition;
7. Demonstrate advanced knowledge of NUI programming techniques; and
8. Use NUI components for implementing applications in MS Visual Studio, MS Expression, MS XNA, MS Kinect SDK and MS Surface SDK, and have the confidence to handle the real-world NUI programming problems.

Special assessment requirements
For final assessment in the unit, the result will be one of the following grades: HD, DI, CR, P, or Fail (NX, NC or NN).
The final mark is calculated as follows:
Final mark (out of 100) = Total mark of 9 tutorials (out of 27) + Week 7 Test mark (out of 20) + Week 12 Test mark (out of 20) + Final Assignment mark (out of 33)

Learner engagement
The amount of time you will need to spend on study in this unit will depend on a number of factors including your prior knowledge, learning skill level and learning style. Nevertheless, in planning your time commitments you should note that for a 3 credit point unit the total notional workload over the semester or term is assumed to be 150 hours. These hours include time spent in classes. The total workload for units of different credit point value should vary proportionally. For example, for a 6 credit point unit the total notional workload over a semester or term is assumed to be 300 hours.
