This unit provides a basis for professional decision-making in classroom practice in the nominated curriculum area teaching years 7-12. The focus of the minimum 15 days of supervised professional experience is to further develop teacher knowledge, skills and attitudes through immersion in the school setting.
This unit may be co-taught with Secondary Teaching Studies G4 in the nominated teaching area.
Learning outcomesOn successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of research into how students learn and the implications for teaching;
2. Demonstrate knowledge of teaching strategies that are responsive to the learning strengths and needs of students from diverse linguistic, cultural, religious and socioeconomic backgrounds including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Backgrounds;
3. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of strategies for differentiating teaching to meet the specific learning needs of students across the full range of abilities;
4. Demonstrate an understanding of the rationale for and sources of continued professional learning; and
5. Apply strategies for engaging with parents/carers, professional teaching networks and broader communities.

PrerequisitesCurriculum Pedagogy and Practice 2 unit and any Curriculum Pedagogy and Practice 3 unit or 6908 Professional Experience SEC 3.
CorequisitesEnrolment in a Teaching course.
- This unit is not open to students who have passed any other Curriculum Pedagogy and Practice 4 unit.

Extensions: Extensions must be applied for before the due date
It should be noted that such documentation will be considered but will not guarantee that the application will be successful. The Unit Convener will decide whether to grant an extension and the length of the extension.
Responsibility for understanding
If there is any doubt with regard to the requirements of any particular assignments or assessment procedure, the onus for clarifying the issue rests with the student who should contact the unit Convener or tutor. Further, it is the responsibility of students to ensure that they are correctly enrolled in the unit and that the tutor and Student Administration have their correct contact details.
Special assessment requirements
An aggregated mark of 50% on assignments 1 and 2 is required to pass the unit. The professional experience component must also be passed to gain an overall pass in the unit.
The unit convener reserves the right to question students orally on any of their submitted work.
Attendance at all scheduled sessions in this unit is compulsory. Successful engagement with all learning activities in this accredited Initial Teacher Education course is necessary to demonstrate that you have met the Graduate career stage of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (AITSL, 2011).
More than two undocumented absences from this unit could result in a fail. In the case of medical reasons or other extenuating circumstances (e.g., a death in the family) medical certificates or equivalent documentation will need to be provided.
NB: Your participation in classes will enhance your understanding of the unit content and therefore the quality of your assessment responses. Lack of participation may result in your inability to satisfactorily pass assessment items.
Attendance at tutorials is compulsory in order that students engage in the presentation of content relating to AITSL Graduate Teacher Standards 6 & 7 – a requirement for the completion of the course approved by the ACT Teacher Quality Institute. Failure to attend may incur additional student work to ensure coverage of the Standards.
Successful and complete participation in the professional experience placement is critical to success in the whole unit. Students must make themselves familiar with the processes and policies of professional experience.

Professional experience is a required activity to receive a grade in this unit. A successful professional placement is requisite for a Pass in this unit.
You are required to have a current Working with Vulnerable Young People card in order to participate in this unit. Please refer to the professional experience section on the Teacher Education Moodle site for full information on the Professional Experience requirements.
Please follow the following instructions to ensure your unit convenor remains informed of your progress in your negotiated placement.
- Fill in the professional experience placement planner in collaboration with your school mentor. (This can be found on the Teacher Education Moodle site). Indicate on the planner when your interim and final reports will be completed.
- Upload your planner, as a draft, to this Moodle site using the dropbox
- If your proposed schedule for the completion of your interim and final reports changes, please upload a new planner with the new dates
Please note: This unit involves work placements hence it requires strict adherence to professional practice and principles and ethics. School, student, and/or research participant confidentiality must always be maintained, including for assessment items like reports or essays etc.
Foundation of Unit
The CPP units are a suite of connected units. They are connected to each other, building your skills and knowledge against the Graduate Standards for Teachers. You will develop an e-portfolio through these units that will help you demonstrate and investigate the connections between the units in your degree, as well as the connections between university and professional experience learning.
CPP4 is a capstone unit, consolidating your understandings of the Graduate Standards, and paying particular attention to Standard 6 - Engage in professional learning, and Standard 7 - Engage professionally with colleagues, parents/carers and the community.
The CPP suite of units is integral to your professional experience. You receive important information to ensure your preparedness to go into schools and meet your ethical, legal and educational responsibilities.
Provision of information to the group
Notifications through the Moodle Announcements Forum are deemed to be made to the whole class. It is the responsibility of the student to ensure that they check for announcements on the Unit's Moodle website (Moodle forum messages are also emailed to student email addresses only). Students should ensure they check their student email regularly.
Use of student email account
The University Email policy states that "students wishing to contact the University via email regarding administrative or academic matters need to send the email from the University account for identity verification purposes". Therefore all unit enquiries should be emailed using a student university email account. Students should contact firstname.lastname@example.org if they have any issues accessing their university email account.
In all cases of absence, sickness or personal problems it is the student's responsibility to ensure that the unit Convener is informed. The minimum participation requirement must be met in order to pass the unit (regardless of supporting documentation).
