PrerequisitesPermission by Unit Convener. Written agreement on activities, placement, supervision and outputs. Restriction: This unit is incompatible for students enrolled in the Bachelor of Human Nutrition (686AA).

Submission of assessment items
Extensions & Late submissions
Approval of extenuating circumstances will be dependent upon the production of supporting documentation and at the discretion of the unit convener. The Placement Plan, Mid-Placement Logbook Update, Final Logbook and Final Report must be submitted via Canvas.
Students should request their workplace supervisor to complete the Placement Supervisor's Report which needs to be submitted to the unit convener via email; supervisors may provide the report to the student at their discretion.
Responsibility for understanding
If there is any doubt with regard to the requirements of any particular assignments or assessment procedure, the onus for clarifying the issue rests with the student who should contact the unit convener. Further, it is the responsibility of students to ensure that they are correctly enrolled in the unit and that the unit convener and Student Administration have their correct contact details.
Special assessment requirements
Final grades are allocated according to the aggregation of marks achieved in all assessment items. The final mark is out of a possible 100 marks. In order to pass this unit, students must
(1) Participate in Placement
(2) Attempt all assessment items and
(3) Gain an overall mark of at least 50%.
The unit convener reserves the right to question students orally on any of their submitted work.
Students have a responsibility to uphold University standards on ethical scholarship. Good scholarship involves building on the work of others and use of others' work must be acknowledged with proper attribution made. Cheating, plagiarism, and falsification of data are dishonest practices that contravene academic values. Refer to the University's Student Charter for more information.
To enhance understanding of academic integrity, all students are expected to complete the Academic Integrity Module (AIM) at least once during their course of study. You can access this module within UCLearn (Canvas) through the 'Academic Integrity and Avoiding Plagiarism' link in the Study Help site.
Use of Text-Matching Software
The University of Canberra uses text-matching software to help students and staff reduce plagiarism and improve understanding of academic integrity. The software matches submitted text in student assignments against material from various sources: the internet, published books and journals, and previously submitted student texts.
Students must complete 15 full time equivalent days at the professional experience placement (or the part time equivalent). Successful completion of the professional experience placement is critical to success in the whole unit. Students must make themselves familiar with the processes and policies of professional experience. These must be documented in consultation with placement and academic supervisors and/or Unit Convener, and recorded in the Placement Logbook and Final Report.
Required IT skills
Basic knowledge of word processing software and any additional skills as required by the placement activities.
This unit may involve online meetings in real time using the Virtual Room in your UCLearn teaching site. The Virtual Room allows you to communicate in real time with your lecturer and other students. To participate verbally, rather than just typing, you will need a microphone. For best audio quality we recommend a microphone and speaker headset. For more information and to test your computer, go to the Virtual Room in your UCLearn site and 'Join Course Room'. This will trigger a tutorial to help familiarise you with the functionality of the virtual room.
Work placement, internships or practicums
This unit involves work placements and therefore, additional student responsibilities are required in addition to those described in section 6. Work-place learning requires strict adherence to professional practice principles and ethics. Client/patient/stakeholder/employer confidentiality must always be maintained, including for assessment items such as logbooks or reports.
The professional nature of this unit requires participation in learning activities for the successful completion of this unit (also see section 6c). If attendance requirements cannot be satisfied (e.g. timetable clash), it is recommended that you meet with your Program Director to schedule this unit in a future semester or term. Doing the placement is a required element of the unit to pass.
Students may find their own placement or request advice from the Unit Convener or another relevant academic staff member about finding a placement. Students must keep the unit convener briefed about their placement, regardless of who organises the placement.
Foundation of Unit
The University of Canberra Graduate Attributes (professional, global and lifelong leaners) are particularly addressed in this unit. Focussed upon students as they approach graduation, the unit challenges students to consider their transition from university to the workplace. The staff involved in the unit are active researchers and senior academics with track records in the public/private sector who are able to engage students in deep and active learning. The assessment is rigorously designed to develop graduate capabilities.
Provision of information to the group
Notifications through the Canvas Announcements/Discussion Forum are deemed to be made to the whole class. It is the responsibility of the students to ensure that they check for announcements on the Unit's Canvas website (Canvas forum messages are also emailed to student email addresses only). Students should ensure they check their student email regularly. The Canvas discussion forums will be checked by staff regularly.
Use of student email account
The University Email policy states that "students wishing to contact the University via email regarding administrative or academic matters need to send the email from the University account for identity verification purposes". Therefore all unit enquiries should be emailed using a student university email account. Students should contact firstname.lastname@example.org if they have any issues accessing their university email account.
In all cases of absence, sickness or personal problems it is the student's responsibility to ensure that the Unit Convener is informed. The minimum participation requirement must be met in order to pass the unit (regardless of supporting documentation).
Unforeseen circumstances beyond the University's and the Unit Convener's control could result in changes to the mode of delivery of workshop and presentation sessions, and also the completion of placements and related assessments. Students will be advised if this occurs and appropriate alternatives will be arranged.
