As no assessment items in this unit allow the use of AI, the submission of your Assessments will be considered a declaration by you that it is entirely your own work (or that of your group for group assessments), and has been prepared without the assistance of anyone else or the use of AI programs including but not limited to ChatGPT, Quillbot, Wordtune, Tome, Bard and DALL-E.
Special assessment requirements
The final mark for this subject will be calculated by an accumulation of marks from each assessment item. The details are stated in the Assessment Item Details section of the unit outline.
In order to pass the unit, students must:
1. Achieve an overall final mark of at least 50%
2. Attempt all of the following assessment items: Laboratory Journal, Group Lesson, News Article, Final Assessment and Scientific report
3. Participate in at least 80% of practical sessions, unless extenuating circumstances prevent this. Students should notify the convener when laboratory sessions are missed, and provide documentation for missed sessions.

Learner engagement
The 150 hours include time spent in classes. The unit occupies a total of 15 weeks including the examination period. Therefore it is expected that you should spend about 10 hours per week for this unit. This might be broken up as follows:

Participation requirements
Attendance at all practical sessions is compulsory. If students are unable to attend a session due to ill-health or extenuating circumstances, it is important that the student contacts the unit convener, and supplies appropriate documentation for laboratory sessions that are missed. It is expected that students will have attended at least 80% of laboratory sessions.
