Learning outcomesOn successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate a critical understanding of the project cycle, emphasising the planning and design activities;
2. Demonstrate an understanding of various approaches to project planning and design and understand the strengths and weaknesses of the different approaches;
3. Demonstrate a critical understanding of the role of participatory techniques in project planning and design;
4. Demonstrate an understanding of theoretical perspectives and debates to practice and policy issues;
5. Recognise the diversity in the theoretical perspectives, that leads to alternative and competing possibilities for analysis and action; and
6. Demonstrate the skills required to articulate and present critique appropriate for studies at post-graduate level.

Dialogue, communication and liaison are important attributes in international develoment and students are expected to engage with one another, the teaching staff and the broader international development community via in-class discussion, using the online tools, academic resources and of thier own volition.

Use of Text-Matching Software

The software matches submitted text in student assignments against material from various sources: the internet, published books and journals, and previously submitted student texts.
Regular attendance and participation during the workshop is critcal as this is a practice based unit. Regular engagement with the unit texts, in-class / workshop activities facilitates effective learning. To enhance your understanding of the seminar and workshop activities, you are expected to read the required readings before class.
Required IT skills
It is assumed that you are able to word-process, make use of the Canvas site, and make effective use of both the internet, and the library's databases and e-journals, for research purposes.
Work placement, internships or practicums
No workplacement or internships will be offered.
