Submission of assessment items
Extensions & Late submissions
All assessment items should be submitted online, via the unit Canvas site. The first page of each assessment submission should include the following information:

Late Submission of Projects
Students submitting work late will receive a reduction in available marks of 5% per day (e.g. if an assessment was submitted three days late a mark of 70% would be reduced to 55%, or put another way, if a student was awarded 21 out of 30 and submitted three days late their mark would be reduced to 16.5 out of 30), up to a maximum of seven days at which time the assignment will no longer be accepted, unless there are approved extenuating circumstances. Detailed information is found in section 9.12 of the Assessment Policy and Procedures. Staff wishing to deviate from this policy will need to state the deviation here (e.g. no late submissions accepted).
Note: The 5% reduction is applicable from Semester 2, 2015 onwards. Final grades entered into Gradebook must reflect the final grade after any reduction applicable for lateness (refer to section 9.12 of the Assessment Policy and Procedures).
If you missed the deadline due to illness or extenuating circumstance; please submit with a doctor's or counseling note valid for the period of time specified. All extensions need to be discussed and agreed with your tutor or Unit Convener before the assessment deadline.
Resubmission
Students who have failed to achieve a pass result can resubmit. The resubmission is due within one week of the date of notification. The maximum grade that a resubmitted assignment can earn is a Pass.
Academic integrity
Students have a responsibility to uphold University standards on ethical scholarship. Good scholarship involves building on the work of others and use of others' work must be acknowledged with proper attribution made. Cheating, plagiarism, and falsification of data are dishonest practices that contravene academic values. Refer to the University's Student Charter for more information.
To enhance understanding of academic integrity, all students are expected to complete the Academic Integrity Module (AIM) at least once during their course of study. You can access this module within UCLearn (Canvas) through the 'Academic Integrity and Avoiding Plagiarism' link in the Study Help site.
Use of Text-Matching Software
The University of Canberra uses text-matching software to help students and staff reduce plagiarism and improve understanding of academic integrity. The software matches submitted text in student assignments against material from various sources: the internet, published books and journals, and previously submitted student texts.

Special consideration
Applications for an extension to the due date for submission of an assessment item on the grounds of illness or other unavoidable and verifiable personal circumstances (that is, special consideration) should be submitted via email to the unit convener. Each application for an extension has to be supported by appropriate documentation. For advice on documentary evidence to support applications for extensions, please refer to the Assessment Guide that supports the Assessment Procedures.
“Students should apply for extensions before the due submission date, and are advised to do so as early as possible. Applications after the due submission date may be considered only in exceptional circumstances” (3.14 Assessment Procedures).
This section only refers to students who have not been granted an extension (see above).
All work must be completed and submitted by the due date. Work submitted after the due date will only be assessed on a pass or fail basis and without comments, unless an extension has been given.
Extensions should be sought before the due date for an assignment. Extensions will only be given for substantial medical or similar reasons.
Work submitted more than one week after the due date will only be assessed at the lecturer's discretion.
Learner engagement
Students who need assistance in undertaking the unit because of a disability or other circumstances, should inform their Unit Convener or UC AccessAbility as soon as possible, so that the necessary arrangements can be made.
Participation requirements
Students who attend campus for class or other purposes must play their part in keeping our campus and community safe by following these basic guidelines to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission:
- Practise good hand hygiene, washing hands regularly;
