Submission of assessment items
Extensions & Late submissions
In order to secure a passing grade, students must:
Complete and Submit all assignment items
Obtain an aggregate overall mark of at least 50%
Where applicable, all assessment items will be submitted online via the teaching site in UCLearn. The first page of each assessment item should include the following information:
Student ID number:
Word Count (if applicable):
Students' names are not to be included in any assessment tasks/submission. Only Student ID numbers should be included (as per the
Assessment Policy and Assessment Procedures).
Assessment items must be submitted to the assignment area in the UCLearn teaching site, relating to that piece of assessment. It is the student's responsibility to upload the correct and corresponding draft or assessment item, to the right submission section.
Late submissions will only be accepted for a limited period. If more than one late submission is made within that period, only the first late submission will be accepted for marking and may be subject to penalties as detailed in the Assessment Procedures.
Students can apply for an extension to the submission due date for an assessment item due to extenuating, evidenced circumstances (specific details are found in the
Assessment Procedures ). An extension must be applied for before the due date. Documentary evidence (e.g. medical certificate) will be expected for an extension to be granted, however, this will not guarantee that the application will be successful. The UnitConvener or relevant Program Director/Course Convener will decide whether to grant an extension and the length of the extension.

Late submission of assignments without an approved extension will result in a penalty of 5% reduced marks from the total available, per calendar day late. An assignment submitted over 7 days late will not be accepted.
Requests for extension
Requests for extensions to the due dates must be made in writing, via email, to the Unit Convener.at least
five working days before the work is due
Requests for extension must adhere to the policy on extension and must contain the extension request form and the documentary evidence to support the extension request.
There will be no extension beyond the last day of the semester, and only one extension will be considered for a single assessment.
If the extension is granted, the Unit Convener will specify the revised due date.
Penalties for late submission of assignments
Students will receive a reduction of 5 percent per day from the total mark available for that assessment item for each day the assessment is late ( up to 7 days), after which the assignment will not be accepted.
Special assessment requirements

Year-Long Units: Students enrolled in year-long units (consisting of a part A and part B unit code) will be allocated a continuing grade (CNTYL) on completion of part A. Once the student has completed part B, the grade for part A will be updated so that the grades for the two-unit codes are the same.
All modes of assessment (i.e. written assignments, quiz, exams, presentations, fieldwork or practicums) are subject to moderation.
The primary assessor marks a piece of student work, assigning a mark and providing comments to justify the mark.
All assessments assigned a Fail are reviewed by a second assessor, who reviews the mark and comments in order to confirm (or not) the mark awarded by the first marker.
All reviews are documented and any changes agreed, by discussion, with the primary marker.
This unit is entirely online.
Due to the COVID-19 face to face consultation may not be consudted. However, students requiring consultation can reach the the unit convenor to arrange an online meeting or through a phone.
Students are expected to allocate time to use the resources on the Canvas site and to undertake the recommended and suggested readings.

Required IT skills
Students will need to be familiar with the techniques of searching scientific databases. A library tutorial will support this requirement. Students also need to have a basic knowledge of relevant statistical programmes.
