Submission of assessment items
Extensions & Late submissions
For clarification, one (1) minute past the specified due date and time is considered a late submission.
It is your responsibility to be familiar with the electronic submission process (e.g., using Canvas). You are reminded to plan well ahead by allowing adequate time to submit assessments before the deadline to avoid mark penalties. If you are concerned about the stability or reliability of your internet connection, it is recommended that you use a student computer on campus, such as in the library, when completing quizzes or other online assessments.
Online Quizzes
If you do not attempt a quiz by the due date, you will forfeit any marks and receive zero for that quiz. Any quizzes still in progress at the due date and time will be automatically submitted. Please ensure you begin your quiz attempt with sufficient time to complete it before the deadline. You must complete the quiz using the Respondus LockDown Browser. This software prevents access to other websites, applications, and screen-sharing tools during the quiz. Instructions for downloading and using the LockDown Browser are available on UCLearn.
Students must apply academic integrity in their learning and research activities at UC. This includes submitting authentic and original work for assessments and properly acknowledging any sources used.
Academic integrity involves the ethical, honest and responsible use, creation and sharing of information. It is critical to the quality of higher education. Our academic integrity values are honesty, trust, fairness, respect, responsibility and courage.
UC students have to complete the Academic Integrity Module annually to learn about academic integrity and to understand the consequences of academic integrity breaches (or academic misconduct).
UC uses various strategies and systems, including detection software, to identify potential breaches of academic integrity. Suspected breaches may be investigated, and action can be taken when misconduct is found to have occurred.
Information is provided in the Academic Integrity Policy, Academic Integrity Procedure, and University of Canberra (Student Conduct) Rules 2023. For further advice, visit Study Skills.
Inclusion and engagement
Students with a Reasonable Adjustment Plan should contact the unit convenor via email at the beginning of semester to confirm any required adjustments for this unit.
Participation requirements
Attendance at workshops is strongly recommended.
Workshops run most weeks—please check your weekly timetable for your allocated session. It is important to attend your assigned workshop time to ensure all students receive an appropriate level of interaction with the tutor.
Workshop notes will outline the activities conducted in class, alongside some self-directed learning tasks and formative assessments (e.g., "check your knowledge" exercises). The goal of workshops is to deepen your understanding, encourage application and critical analysis of content, and introduce practical assessment skills relevant for later units.
To participate in practical labs during workshops, you must wear appropriate clothing for physical activity (e.g., shorts and T-shirt) and enclosed footwear suitable for exercise (e.g., runners or court shoes). You may also need to bring a towel and water bottle. Before engaging in practical lab activities, you must complete an Adult Pre-Exercise Screening form and provide written informed consent.
Workshops will not be recorded. It is your responsibility to catch up on any missed material if you do not attend.
Required IT skills
Students are expected to have UC IT entry skills, enabling them to access and navigate the unit's Canvas site.
Work placement, internships or practicums
None
Additional information
Professional Communication and Email Protocols
I encourage students to use Canvas discussion forums for general questions about unit content and assessments whenever possible. Please do not use discussion forums to request assignment extensions or to ask specific questions about quiz content.
Students posting on discussion forums can expect a response or confirmation from the unit convenor within 1–2 business days.
Email Communication
If you need to send an email, please adhere to the following guidelines to ensure a timely response:
-
Send emails only from your official student email account. Emails from personal accounts will not receive a reply.
-
The subject line must include the unit code and a clear context, e.g., "8338: Assessment 1 Submission."
-
Address the lecturer appropriately by name (e.g., "Hi Joe,").
-
State your question or request clearly and concisely.
-
Sign off with your full name.
-
If your email relates to previous correspondence, please include the email trail rather than starting a new conversation.
Emails that do not follow these conventions may not receive a reply (or at least a less helpful one). When you send an email, you can expect a response within 2–4 business days.
