Required texts

This unit covers material from a number of different areas. As such, there is no one textbook that adequately covers its themes. Instead unit readings been compiled and are available via the links on the unit website.

Submission of assessment items

Special assessment requirements

 

All assessable items must be submitted or performed. Failure to do so will result in an NC (Fail) grade being awarded for the unit. 

 

Extensions will only be granted for a valid reason such as illness. A medical certificate or other appropriate documentation must accompany requests for extensions. Lack of personal organisation is not considered to be a valid reason for an extension.

Academic integrity

Use of Text-Matching Software

The University of Canberra uses text-matching software to help students and staff reduce plagiarism and improve understanding of academic integrity. The software matches submitted text in student assignments against material from various sources: the internet, published books and journals, and previously submitted student texts.

Inclusion and engagement

Students who need assistance in undertaking the unit, because of disability or other circumstance, should inform their unit convener as soon as possible, so that necessary arrangements can be made.

Participation requirements

Attendance at lectures and participation in tutorials is highly recommended, given the unfamiliarity of the material to most students, but not assessed.

Required IT skills

General computing skills are required. This includes being able to access, download and post items on/from the Canvas site.

Additional information

In this unit you have the opportunity to gain verbal feedback on your research proposal from your tutor in a one-on-one appointment in week 5. These appointments while not directly contributing to your final mark will help you forumlate your Research Proposal and later your Resarch Report. Thus taking advantage of this appointment time will enable you to gain important feedback to: improve your understanding about social movements; improve the design and execution of your research project; and, if the feedback is appropriately acted on, to maximise your grades. I highly recommend you take up this offer.
