Submission of assessment items
Extensions & Late submissions
All assessments are marked on a competency basis i.e. Ungraded Pass/Fail grade. However, all assignments should meet the university's expectations of postgraduate students. To achieve an overall pass for the unit, students must submit and pass all assignments.
Special assessment requirements
Resubmissions are available only in the first and last units undertaken in an award and are at the discretion of the unit convenor.
Moderation of Assignments:
Some assessments will be moderated, as per the Faculties's Moderation Procedures.
Late submissions of Assignments:
Penalties for late submission of assessed work will be applied, if no extension has been approved. Marks will be deducted at the rate of 5% of the value of the assessment item per day it is overdue (including weekends). For example, if an assignment is worth 50 marks, 5 marks will be deducted each day.
Extensions must be applied for before the due date. Students can apply for an extension on the grounds of illness or other unavoidable and verifiable personal circumstances. Documentary evidence will be expected in order that an extension be granted. It shoud be noted that such documentation will be considered but will not guarantee that an application will be successful. The Unit convenor will decide whether to grant an extension and the length of the extension.
Students have a responsibility to uphold University standards on ethical scholarship. Good scholarship involves building on the work of others and use of others' work must be acknowledged with proper attribution made. Cheating, plagiarism, and falsification of data are dishonest practices that contravene academic values. Refer to the University's Student Charter for more information.
To enhance understanding of academic integrity, all students are expected to complete the Academic Integrity Module (AIM) at least once during their course of study. You can access this module within UCLearn (Canvas) through the 'Academic Integrity and Avoiding Plagiarism' link in the Study Help site.
Use of Text-Matching Software
The University of Canberra uses text-matching software to help students and staff reduce plagiarism and improve understanding of academic integrity. The software matches submitted text in student assignments against material from various sources: the internet, published books and journals, and previously submitted student texts.
The Graduate Diploma in Counselling has been designed to meet Psychotherapy in Australia (PACFA) accreditation requirements, which include 200 hours face to face learning. This translates to at least an 80% attendance in each unit. It is to your advantage personally, professionally and academically to attend all sessions unless prevented by illness or other unforeseen situations. In these circumstances students should notify the lecturer in advance where possible. It is also strongly suggested that you negotiate ways of meeting the learning objectives of missed sessions with your unit convenor and if required, submit supplementary assessments.
Required IT skills
You must be able to word process assessments so that they are well presented, search the library data bases for relevant journal articles and access UCLearn site for this unit. It is the individual student's responsibility to access appropriate help from the University IT services or the library if you do not have adequate skills.
