Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:1. Analyse pedagogical practices concerned with the teaching of writing;
2. Analyse and assess reading and writing development in young learners;
3. Demonstrate an understanding of strategies for responding to diverse literacy needs; and
4. Design and implement teaching programs, with reference to curriculum documents, which support the development of literacy across different curriculum areas and modes of communication.

The first page of your pdf file should include the following information:

The second page of each assessment submission should be the marking criteria for the assessment piece, as provided on Moodle.
You will be asked to confirm the following online declaration at the point of submission. I certify that:
• the attached assignment is my own work and no part of this work has been written for me by any other person except where such collaboration has been authorised by the lecturer/s concerned;
• material drawn from other sources has been fully acknowledged as to author/creator, source and other bibliographic details according to unit-specific requirements for referencing; and
• no part of this work has been submitted for assessment in any other unit in this or another Faculty except where authorised by the lecturer/s concerned.
Special assessment requirements
An aggregate mark of 50% is required to pass the unit.
Personal literacy requirements
For both assignments you must demonstrate strong personal literacy skills. If an unsatisfactory grade is given on any of the specific ‘personal literacy' criteria attached to each assignment, the student will receive a WH on the assessment piece. They will be given a referral slip to take along to Academic Skills Program. After they have attended Academic Skills Program, and forwarded on to their tutor/unit convenor a brief electronic report detailing that attendance, the WH grade may be changed. Unsatisfactory achievement on any one of the other criteria may result in a Fail grade for a given assessment item.
The unit convener reserves the right to question students orally on any of their submitted work.
Supplementary assessment
Supplementary assessment will usually only be offered to students who have failed a single unit in their final semester with a final mark between 45-49% and they are in the final semester of their course, as mentioned above.

Participation requirements
Attendance:
Attendance at all scheduled sessions in this unit is compulsory. Successful engagement with all learning activities in this accredited Initial Teacher Education course is necessary to demonstrate that you have met the Graduate career stage of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (AITSL, 2011).
More than two undocumented absences from this unit could result in a fail. In the case of medical reasons or other extenuating circumstances (e.g., a death in the family) medical certificates or equivalent documentation will need to be provided.
Both assessment pieces will be worked upon in tutorials. Previous years have shown that non-attendance of tutorials reduces the likelihood of achieving pass grades in the assessments.
