This unit aims to provide students with the analytical skills required for successful postgraduate study. Research methods studied include a range of statistical techniques used in academic research conducted in business, management and other organization contexts. The written component will emphasise the preparation and testing of research hypotheses. Assessment will be by assignments and preparation and testing of research hypotheses.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Understand quantitative research methods used in business and other organization contexts;
2. Choose the appropriate research methods for particular circumstances; and
3. Demonstrate skills in preparing and testing hypotheses.

Special assessment requirements

WIL and Flipped-classroom delivery will be followed. Regular on-campus attendance is highly anticipated, (online content support will be provided). It is strongly recommended to read and prepare all the lecture/lab contents and discussion items before the respective workshops.

Use of Text-Matching Software

The University of Canberra uses text-matching software to help students and staff reduce plagiarism and improve understanding of academic integrity. The software matches submitted text in student assignments against material from various sources: the internet, published books and journals, and previously submitted student texts.

Participation requirements

All workshop sessions will be highly interactive and hence students are strongly encouraged to participate actively.
