Neurological Interventions 2 PG (6456.6)

This unit covers the rehabilitation for specific neurological conditions. The pathology, and impairments, recovery and prognosis with common neurological conditions will be studied. Skills in assessment, analysis, interpretation, treatment and exercise selection and implementation will be developed further. Written and verbal communication skills will be fostered. Roles of other health professionals in client management will be explored.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Apply and evaluate assessment strategies and outcome measurements for the physiotherapy management of people with progressive and/or complex neurological conditions;
2. Interpret and critically analyse assessment and measurement findings for progressive and/or complex neurological conditions to guide physiotherapy intervention planning;
3. Deliver and evaluate effective and safe physiotherapy interventions for people with progressive and/or complex neurological conditions;
4. Interpret and critically analyse findings through comprehensive knowledge and relevant evidence to optimise ethical decision making in physiotherapy practices; and
5. Reflect on and adapt communication and professional behaviours to advance culturally safe, person-centred, and collaborative care practices in neurological physiotherapy, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and other diverse populations.
