Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:1. Be familiar with some of the major topics in psychology;
2. Be able to demonstrate knowledge of theory and research and issues related to these topics;
3. Be able to describe and understand the research methods employed in psychology; and
4. Be familiar with how to write in psychology using the American Psychological Association's referencing conventions.

A limited number of copies of the Burton, Westen and Kowalski (2015) and the text on writing essays and research reports in psychology (Burton) will also be available to borrow from the University library.

Special assessment requirements
In order to pass this unit, the essay, quizzes and final exam must be submitted for evaluation and students need to achieve an overall mark of at least 50% for this unit. If you receive a mark in excess of 50% for this unit, but have not completed the compulsory assessment items, you will fail this unit.

Participation requirements
Students are expected to attend or access online all lectures and participate in tutorials. Students can choose to attend face to face tutorials or participate in the equivalent online learning environment. When attending and participating in lectures and tutorials, it is expected that students be mindful of others' rights to teach/learn, be respectful of staff and fellow students by having mobile phones switched off or to silent mode, and that personal/private conversations be conducted outside the classroom.
Required IT skills
Students are expected to have basic IT skills in order to navigate Canvas. Regular access to Canvas is a requirement for students enrolled in this unit to enable access to announcements, discussion forums, completion of online quizzes and for online submission of assignments. It is also expected that all students will have basic word processing skills. If you are unfamiliar with searching specialist databases for accessing Psychology Journals please see the UC library site for details of training sessions.
Students enrolled in the online tutorial will access tutorial materials via the Canvas Virtual Room (recordings, activities) and can use the forum to communicate with your tutor and other students.
