Medical Imaging Professional Practice 1 (12313.1)

This unit commences the development of students' clinical skills for safe diagnostic radiography practice. In this unit students undertake a supervised clinical practice placement and laboratory simulation activities. Clinical placements provide the opportunity for students to develop and apply safe clinical skills in a supervised environment as they become familiar with patient care activities and develop critical evaluation and reflective practice skills. Students are required to pass placement and related competency tasks to successfully complete this unit. This unit is co-taught with Medical Imaging Professional Practice 1 PG.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Plan, perform and evaluate a range of routine radiographic examinations under direct supervision;
2. Apply ethical, professional, and culturally safe practices, adhering to radiation safety principles and legal standards;
3. Utilise effective communication skills, maintaining safe and respectful patient care, in conveying examination outcomes; and
4. Adapt knowledge and skills in applying radiographic approaches to a diverse range of patients and their contexts.
