Disability Advocacy and Inclusive Leadership G (12308.1)

The NDIS sector faces significant workforce challenges, including high turnover rates and the need for a more skilled and culturally aligned workforce. As the demand for services grows, there is an urgent need to attract, train and retain qualified professionals to ensure consistent and quality support for participants. This unit examines disability inclusion and equity in policy and advocacy, focusing on systemic barriers, rights frameworks and strategies for promoting inclusive and effective outcomes for people with disability. Students learn how to use effective leadership strategies within the disability context, to raise the profile of the NDIS within workplaces and contribute to sector goals.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Critically reflect on the significance of advocacy and inclusion, both generally and within NDIS contexts;
2. Analyse and evaluate leadership concepts and practices to support workforce capability and improve outcomes for people with disability; and
3. Design and justify advocacy and leadership strategies that promote inclusive practice, influence organisational and sector-level decision-making and contribute to ongoing sector goals.
