The NDIS supports over 700,000 participants, with projections indicating a rise to over 1 million by 2034. In order to meet these growing demands, there is a need to educate and uplift the skill set within the sector to help create a workforce of the future to bring these goals to life. This unit introduces students to policy development, implementation, and regulatory processes across government and service provider contexts. Students are required to demonstrate applied and critical comprehension of disability policy and regulation to drive reform in the sector, using the NDIS framework as the main lever to achieve this.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Articulate the current national and state-based policy and regulatory environment governing disability services in Australia.
2. Critically evaluate complex scenarios through application of Australian disability policy and regulation knowledge or skills; and
3. Propose evidence-backed opportunities for sector improvement and reform.
