Data-Driven Decision Making and Analytics PG (12289.1)

This unit prepares a new generation of managers, leaders, thinkers, and problem-solvers to succeed in an increasingly competitive, innovative and challenging business world. It responds to the growing importance of research, discovery and data in a knowledge economy that is global, smart, disruptive and uncertain. You build the capacity for solving real-world problems creatively, critically and responsibly. To do so, you examine theoretical and methodological approaches to research, develop hands-on techniques and skills of designing a research project and explore data collection and analysis, including opportunities and pitfalls associated with big data and artificial intelligence. Finally, you tackle problems and identify solutions to inform business strategy, policy and decision making.

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Identify, analyse and effectively communicate a complex real-world business problem to relevant stakeholders;
2. Critically analyse and compare literature and information to advance knowledge of the context, changes and disruptions surrounding a complex real-world business problem; and
3. Devise research methods and analytical techniques that will best generate evidence-based insights for a complex real-world business problem.
