Speech Pathology 1 PG (12269.1)

This unit explores the policies and guidelines of the speech pathology profession. The unit introduces students to evidence-based practice and processes involved in the planning and provision of speech pathology services for communication or swallowing disorders across the lifespan.

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Develop and synthesise knowledge of the documents which underpin and govern professional practice in speech pathology (e.g. Speech Pathology Australia's Code of Ethics; Scope of Practice; Professional Standards);
2. Understand and apply the processes of assessment and intervention in speech pathology;
3. Describe and analyse speech pathology service provision across different states/territories in relation to aspects of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) and government policy; and understand barriers to service access from the perspective of diverse populations;
4. Critically reflect on their own learning ; and
5. Critically appraise and integrate various sources of evidence to inform decision-making related to speech pathology practice and service provision.
