Research Methods and Skills for Research Students PG (12187.1)

This unit will support new researchers navigate fundamental processes, techniques, methodologies and knowledge development at a post graduate level. Activities will help students to establish quality research questions and the appropriate methodologies to conduct their research. It will also focus on the roles and responsibilities of the student and supervisor in managing the life cycle of the candidature.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Critically explore advanced research concepts and methodologies across diverse disciplinary contexts to design and conduct independent research;
2. Exploring and synthesizing the literature relevant to the research field;
3. Understand and adhere to research ethics regulations including the process of obtaining research ethics approval;
4. Evaluate appropriate strategies to process and synthesise research data into meaningful outcome measures; and
5. Understand and apply requirements of candidature management, supervisor relationships and the publication process.
