Advanced Evidence Based Practice G (12162.1)

In this unit the learner develops skills to find information from published and professional sources, and critically evaluate it, allowing for meaningful and impactful changes to be made in healthcare. Using foundational knowledge of research design, the quality of the information can be evaluated, weighted and synthesised. Through this process a clinical or practical question can be answered from the available information. This evaluation forms the basis of clinical and service decision-making, for diagnosis, intervention or service and practice change.

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Locate best available evidence to inform clinical practice;
2. Critique research design, translation and implementation frameworks;
3. Assemble and appraise information from context, experience, and published literature to apply to advanced practice in your workplace;
4. Synthesise and communicate evaluation findings appropriately for a lay or professional audience; and
5. Examine the social and cultural context of research design and findings and the impact on clinical practice.
