Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies for Cyber Security G (12132.1)

This unit explores the cutting-edge world of cyber security, specifically the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies on system security. We will investigate methods for securing the Internet of Things (IoT), the role of quantum computing and networking, secure software development, the rise of spear-phishing and the role of the dark web. Students will strengthen their analytical skills to grasp AI concepts and how they are applied in cybersecurity situations. The unit also examines the effectiveness of advanced threat mitigation strategies, including post-quantum cryptography, to combat ever-changing cyber threats.

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Evaluate emerging aspects of the cyber security sector, including new technologies, IoT and the role of artificial intelligence in securing systems;
2. Apply advanced analytical skills to understand artificial intelligence concepts and apply them to cyber security scenarios; and
3. Analyse the effectiveness of advanced threat mitigation strategies, including artificial intelligence and post-quantum cryptography.
