This unit is Part B of a 2-part year-long honours level unit. It is aimed at providing students with the opportunity to undertake a significant research project in the field of engineering. Over the course of a year, students will work on a thesis that will be based on an engineering project of their choice. The unit will enable students to develop and apply their research skills, including project planning, data collection and analysis, critical thinking, and academic writing. Upon completion, students will have produced a comprehensive and original piece of research that demonstrates their thorough knowledge of engineering principles and their ability to apply them to real-world problems.
1. Demonstrate advanced skills in managing an engineering research project, including risk analysis, ethical considerations, quality assurance and sustainability;
2. Utilise analytical and problem-solving skills to propose solutions to contemporary engineering projects;
3. Apply comprehensive engineering research skills in creating research proposals and reports;
4. Clearly communicate and present research findings as appropriate for a diverse range of audiences
5. Produce a comprehensive engineering research project and thesis
