International Professional Practice - Creative Arts (6cp) (12084.1)

This unit will positively complement and extend the development of professional graduates in the Creative Arts Specialist stream of initial teacher education in the Bachelor of Primary Education - Creative Arts (323JA). Through working in a collaborative environment (Education and Design students) in an international professional context, this situated learning enables students to participate in the social and professional community where personal and professional knowledge, confidence and competence in designing engaging and authentic Creative Arts learning experiences can be enhanced. Students will be challenged to make comparisons between the understanding and practices of Arts education in Australia and the international setting. Building on skills and knowledge gained in 9865 Creative Arts Principles and 9866 Creative Arts Specialists, Creative Arts specialists students will further develop their graduate skill base through exposure and cultural immersion and engagement.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Critically analyse and articulate the contextual influences that inform similarities and differences between professional practice in Arts Education internationally and in Australia through a comparative contextual analysis;
2. Participate in the daily work, researching and designing Creative Arts education resources and learning spaces in collaboration with design students and industry professionals in an international setting;
3. Develop an understanding of professional culture, structures, practice and ethics of the international professional setting;
4. Demonstrate enhanced cultural intelligence through engagement with international professionals and peers; and
5. Demonstrate their ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with people whose attitudes, values, knowledge and skills may be significantly different from their own.

Students must have passed 24 credit points including 9865 Creative Arts Principles AND 9866 Creative Arts Specialist.
