This unit introduces the domains of kinematics, kinetics, dynamics, and three-dimensional dynamics of rigid bodies. Synthesis of serial and parallel robots involving position and Jacobian analysis will be discussed. Concepts related to the static and stiffness analysis of robots will be provided in this unit. In the later half of this unit, all these methods will be combined to perform the dynamic analysis of serial and parallel robots.
1. Understand the fundamental concepts related to the kinematics, kinetics, dynamics and three-dimensional dynamics of rigid bodies;
2. Perform position analysis of serial and parallel robots;
3. Undertake Jacobian analysis, statics, and stiffness analysis of serial and parallel robots; and
4. Carry out the dynamic analysis of serial and parallel robots.
