Strategic Management (12052.2)

Strategic management seeks to synthesise the theory, management and practices of planning, budgeting, implementation and evaluation at the corporate, business and operational levels in different types of organisations (government, business, and not-for-profit). There will be a focus on the challenges and risks which business face, with case studies drawn from a variety of real-world issues. Students will examine contemporary managerial decision-making processes and actions that shape the long-term performance of organisations, through lectures, tutorials and reviewing practical case studies.

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Analyse various business and government organisational structures, and develop adaptations and strategies for changing contexts;
2. Assess and critique the role and application of legislation, public policies, and professional codes of conduct within differing organisational contexts;
3. Develop and demonstrate their capability to plan for the implementation of organisational change;
4. Critique and analyse the appropriateness of different strategic management strategies and approaches to different organisational contexts; and
5. Demonstrate effective and appropriately researched communication across multiple modes.
