Streaming and Social (12026.1)

The ways we communicate are changing faster than ever, and media professionals must be willing and equipped to continually evolve their practice in order to successfully inform and entertain. In this unit, you will use existing and emerging social platforms to communicate effectively with networked audiences who are overwhelmed with content choices. In the production of a range of audio-visual content, you will focus on voice and performance, and develop presentation styles appropriate to contemporary modes of communication. You will ponder the challenges a post-broadcast environment presents to traditional notions of media and journalism, and explore ways that you can feed credible information into those networks.

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Identify and consider ways to engage fragmented and networked audiences in a post-broadcast communications environment;
2. Create innovative, platform-appropriate multimedia content for distribution to a range of audiences;
3. Gather, evaluate and verify information from a range of sources including those not traditionally relied upon by journalists; and
4. Critically reflect on the changing media and information landscape and consider how it may evolve further.
