In this unit, students will be introduced to various theoretical perspectives, approaches to curriculum and pedagogies that are used in early childhood education. They will explore how to plan for children's learning, using the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF). They will be guided through the Planning Cycle, from choosing approaches and strategies based on their philosophy, to curriculum decision making, designing learning experiences, and documenting and assessing children's learning.
This unit includes a professional experience placement with children aged between birth and 2 years in an early learning centre approved by the local regulatory authority. Successful completion of the professional experience placement is required to pass this unit.
1. Critically reflect on alignment between pedagogy and educational philosophy;
2. Plan learning experiences using the EYLF; and
3. Demonstrate documentation and assessment practices specific to children's learning, including how to use data to inform planning.
