MRS Practicum 1 (11977.2)

This unit commences the clinical skill development required in the practice of diagnostic radiography. In this unit students undertake a series of supervised medical radiation science clinical practice placements across the year of the course as well as undertaking laboratory simulation. Clinical placements provide the opportunity for students to develop and build safe clinical skills in a supervised environment and to become familiar with the patient care activities. In this unit students will also develop critical evaluation and reflective practice skills. Students are required to pass the placement and related competency tasks to successfully complete this unit.

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Plan, perform and evaluate a range of routine radiographic examinations under direct supervison;
2. Apply ethical, professional, and culturally safe practices, adhering to radiation safety principles and legal standards;
3. Utilise effective communication skills, maintaining safe and respectful patient care, in conveying examination outcomes; and
4. Adapt knowledge and skills in applying radiographic approaches to a diverse range of patients and their contexts.

9848 Introduction to Medical Radiation Science AND 11399 Understanding People and Behaviour.

Corequisites

Enrolment in 319JA Bachelor of Medical Radiation Science (Medical Imaging) AND 10014 Imaging Anatomy AND 10028 Radiographic Imaging 1 AND 10026 Physical Principles of MRS.
