Successful leadership builds individual capacity and team cohesiveness. Quality leadership is crucial to success in educational contexts, and this subject clarifies the ways in which effective leadership values the contribution that all teachers make. It investigates ways to develop teachers' professional capacity, knowledge, teamwork and initiative among colleagues, professional staff and school leaders. The subject also appraises different skills and strategies to build and sustain teacher development and the establishment of specific programs in educational settings. Students examine ways in which the effective leadership of teachers can result in improved student engagement and outcomes, and school community empowerment.

3. Evaluate the connection between effective leadership of school staff and improved outcomes for students and school communities; and
4. Apply knowledge of teacher leadership to particular school contexts and challenges.
