This practice unit will support the development of foundational skills in the provision of postnatal care for well women, their babies and families. Students will use a woman-centred framework and gain midwifery knowledge that contributes to developing competency and meeting the NMBA Midwife standards for practice.
1. Develop foundational knowledge and skills to understand and apply theory to practice with well women, their babies and their families;
2. Achieve a satisfactory WIL level as evidenced by completion of the practice portfolio;
3. Demonstrate the ability to form and maintain midwifery relationships with postnatal women while developing a woman-centred midwifery philosophy; and
4. Develop reflective skills to learn from experience and apply critical thinking to working with women.
