Policy and Public Health PG (11925.2)

This unit will expose students to the breadth of public health practice and organisations. It will explore the central role of policy and the policy cycle in government in achieving Public Health goals. It will also examine the role of Public Health Advocacy in creating change in policy and practice.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Apply critical thinking skills to assess key issues in contemporary public health practice and policy;
2.Review and analyse relationship between practice and policy for Public Health within varying contexts, e.g. community, national and international public health practice;
3. Critically analyse and evaluate public health policy including the role of community and civil society in influencing policy; and
4. Present a coherent and effective argument advocating for change in public health practice or policy.
