Academic Techniques (11913.1)

Academic Techniques incorporates academic literacies, information literacies and digital literacies that are foundational to the academic environment. These literacies enable effective thinking and communicating in an academic environment, and beyond, into the wider community. This unit prepares students for university by teaching and providing practice in the academic skills that students need to adopt given university standards and expectations. As part of this, the unit explores the different ways of knowing and understanding. This unit addresses Academic Integrity in terms of theory and practice both within an academic environment but also linking to an understanding of this in the wider community environment. This unit also complements and supports the Humanities, Analytical Methods, and Digital Literacy Project units by teaching the skills needed to successfully complete assignments in these units.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Apply academic integrity to identify information and use it effectively within an academic and professional context;
2. Understand the ethics of information collection and use within an academic and professional context; and
3. Organise and communicate information effectively within an academic context.
