This unit will develop student's understanding of research, knowledge translation and practical application of research in healthcare. Digital literacy, academic and analytical skills are a focus of this unit; specifically, finding and critically considering clinical research and sources of knowledge that inform healthcare. The unit uses local, national, and international research exemplars to explore translation of evidence into health care practice and policy.
In this unit, students will engage in scholarly and ethical approaches to inquiry, developing a strong foundation of evidence informed practice that can be enhanced throughout their academic journey and professional career. Students will explore technology enhanced innovation and digital health modalities that influence care delivery, health outcomes and research at the individual, community and population level.
1. Explore online communication techniques and therapeutic relationships in technology enhanced healthcare environments;
2. Identify the role that healthcare data collection and evidence has in informing and changing healthcare practice, including public health approaches;
3. Demonstrate knowledge of research methods, research processes and ethics, and research designs;
4. Demonstrate digital literacy, including an ability to access and utilise available electronic databases to support scholarly approaches to inquiry;
5. Appraise the quality of research and interpret research findings and their implications for evidence based practice at a foundational level; and
6. Explore digital health modalities and research driven innovation that improve equity, access and health outcomes for individuals and communities.
