This unit introduces students to the notion of curriculum as a contested field. In so doing the unit examines the different levels of curriculum, including the official, written, enacted and received, and the social and political influences upon curriculum. Accounting for the social and political influences, from this broader perspective the unit introduces specific elements of curriculum enactment, including planning and designing units and lessons.
1. Critically analyse contested views of curriculum;
2. Critique the influence of social and political considerations upon curriculum;
3. Critically and creatively apply elements of curriculum in designing units and lessons; and
4. Rationalise the use of curriculum frameworks and elements to inform planning and pedagogical approaches.
