Learning outcomesOn successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

Submission of assessment items
Special assessment requirements
In order to pass this unit, students are required to:
1) achieve an aggregated grade of 50% or higher.
2) complete the Academic Integrity Module (AIM).
3) Students must attempt and submit all assessment items to pass this unit
The final mark for this subject will be calculated by an accumulation of marks from each assessment item (E-Portfolio Part 1 = 20%, Annontated bibliography and literature review = 30%, E-Portfolio Part 2 = 20% and Vodcast = 30%). The unit convener reserves the right to question students orally on their submitted work.
Students have a responsibility to uphold University standards on ethical scholarship. Good scholarship involves building on the work of others and use of others' work must be acknowledged with proper attribution made. Cheating, plagiarism, and falsification of data are dishonest practices that contravene academic values. Refer to the University's Student Charter for more information.
To enhance understanding of academic integrity, all students are expected to complete the Academic Integrity Module (AIM) at least once during their course of study. You can access this module within UCLearn (Canvas) through the 'Academic Integrity and Avoiding Plagiarism' link in the Study Help site.
Use of Text-Matching Software
The University of Canberra uses text-matching software to help students and staff reduce plagiarism and improve understanding of academic integrity. The software matches submitted text in student assignments against material from various sources: the internet, published books and journals, and previously submitted student texts.
The contact hours for each student in this unit consist of 24 hours of lectures (2 hrs x 12 lectures) and 24 hours of workshops (tutorial style) (2 hrs x 12 sessions). The remaining 102 hours of workload should be distributed across the various assessment tasks.
Whilst there are no participation requires for this unit, there is a Round Table Discussion with Industry scheduled for Week 10, during the regular lecture time. Whilst participation is not mandatory, it is highly encouraged you attend as this informs a significant portion of your E-Portfoio Part 2 submission. In the event that you cannot attend due to illness or unavoidable commitments, please discuss your absence with staff as soon as possible so you can take responsibility for reviewing missed work. Students who miss workshops and other such commitments should provide relevant documentation to the Unit Convener as soon as possible, via email email@example.com
Required IT skills
Familiarity with Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint or equivalent is necessary. It is expected that students have learned how to access resources in the UC library and to access the Unit's Canvas site.
Work placement, internships or practicums
Lecture and workshop attendance
While lecture and workshop (tutorial style) attendance is not compulsory, students are expected to view (and ideally attend) lectures prior to their weekly workshop (tutorial style). Workshop (tutorial style) activities build upon lecture content and all lecture content is assessable.
Please note that Lectures will be recorded and workshop (tutorial style) will not be recorded.
Research Led Education
This unit involves research-led education. There are active researchers involved in this unit who are able to engage students in deep and active learning and transmit to students their passion for the research they are carrying out.
Provision of information to the group
Notifications through the Canvas Announcements Forum or the Canvas Discussion Forums are deemed to be made to the whole class. It is the responsibility of the student to ensure that they check for announcements on the Unit's Canvas website (Canvas forum messages are also emailed to student email addresses only). Students should ensure they check their student email regularly. The Canvas discussion forums will be checked by staff regularly.
Use of student email account
The University Email policy states that "students wishing to contact the University via email regarding administrative or academic matters need to send the email from the University account for identity verification purposes". Therefore all unit enquiries should be emailed using a student university email account. Students should contact firstname.lastname@example.org if they have any issues accessing their university email account.
In all cases of absence, sickness or personal problems it is the student's responsibility to ensure that the Unit Convener is informed.
