Students will learn to research key information on historical and contemporary artists and their application of 3D media. 3D Media will be discussed and situated within contemporary culture.
The broad base of study here provides the foundation for further involvement with 3D media processes and applications. It provides the basis for the understanding of, and engagement with manual image making skills and their critique.
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:1. Employ a variety of manual sculptural and ceramic techniques;
2. Review media, application, technique, design and content;
3. Identify key information on historical and contemporary artists and their use of 3D media;
4. Produce a portfolio of preliminary and resolved, works in 3D media; and
5. Employ communication skills in an academic and/or creative context.

Students are permitted to use generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) as indicated in the assessment instructions for this unit, as well as Studiosity Writing Feedback Plus.
GenAI may only be used in authorised ways when completing assessments at UC. This means that GenAI can only be used for an assessment when:
the Unit Convener has authorised GenAI use for that assessment
the student uses GenAI in the way that the assessment instructions allow
the student fully acknowledges their use of GenAI, with proper citations, references and a GenAI Acknowledgement Statement in line with the assessment instructions.
Where the assessment instructions do not specifically state that GenAI may be used and how, then its use is not permitted for that assessment. Students must still provide the required GenAI Acknowledgement Statement to indicate whether GenAI has or has not been used in the preparation of the assessment. If unsure, students should seek advice from the Unit Convener.

Participation requirements
Students must attend studio classes to be given materials. Classes for this unit take place in the ceramic studio where access to specialist equipment is required (and limited), therefor on-campus workshop attendance is highly encouraged.
