The unit focuses on ways of originating and developing fashion research, and appropriate methods applied to the creative industries. The unit also promotes the exploration and experimentation with different critical and methodological perspectives to research for fashion design, in addition to examining established research methods.
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:1. Identify and demonstrate the key fashion silhouettes in a historical context providing reference to construction techniques and manufacture;
2. Select and evaluate research material appropriate to fashion design concepts;
3. Exhibit competence and confidence in design creativity, development and fashion awareness; and
4. Plan, design, execute and communicate an individual project, which provides evidence of critical intellectual engagement and interpretation of appropriate data.

Submission of assessment items
Special assessment requirements
In order to pass this unit, students have to obtain at least 50% of the available marks and attempt all assessment pieces.
Students who are unable to submit an assignment within a week of the due date, for medical reasons, will be required to submit assignment on a negotiated due date.
No assignments will be accepted for marking after the solution or marked assignments have been returned to the class.

Use of Text-Matching Software
The University of Canberra uses text-matching software to help students and staff reduce plagiarism and improve understanding of academic integrity. The software matches submitted text in student assignments against material from various sources: the internet, published books and journals, and previously submitted student texts.
