This unit aims to advance the applied knowledge and skills developed in Clinical Conditions 1 for exercise physiology practice across a wider range of clinical conditions that align with core, niche and emerging areas of practice for ESSA Accredited Exercise Physiologists. Students will formulate their clinical approach to exercise interventions within the biopsychosocial health and multidisciplinary care frameworks. Students will enhance their competencies in communication, client assessment, exercise prescription, program management, decision-making and clinical reasoning to implement safe and effective exercise interventions for complex clients with integrated health conditions.
1. Explain the pathophysiological bases and evidence-based treatment for core, niche and emerging areas of contemporary clinical practice as an ESSA Accredited Exercise Physiologist;
2. Design and evaluate safe and effective exercise interventions across a range of clinical conditions, accounting for sociocultural and individual factors;
3. Investigate and apply assessments, exercise prescription and programming for recovery or management of complex clinical conditions relevant to the scope of practice of an Accredited Exercise Physiologist;
4. Critique case-based treatment plans, considering priorities of comorbidity, associated medical, surgical and allied health treatments, referral and assessment information, individual context and scientific evidence;
5. Develop strategies to teach, coach and motivate clients for self-management of exercise and healthy lifestyle, using biopsychosocial framework, behaviour change, and evidence-based practice; and
6. Formulate sound clinical reasoning and decision making informed by evidence-based practice and client-centred care.
