This unit may be co-taught with the undergraduate unit 8975 Orthopaedic Physiotherapy.
Learning outcomes
After successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:1. Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of musculoskeletal trauma including fracture classification;
2. Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of chronic inflammatory and degenerative diseases of the musculoskeletal system;
3. Understand and identify patient problems and principles for physiotherapy management of orthopaedic patients, and be able to discuss this in the context of current evidence;
4. Develop communication skills for talking with, and writing to, professional and lay people;
5. Choose and apply appropriate basic physiotherapy management for routine orthopaedic problems; and
6. Demonstrate safety in manual skills

Moderation
The Discipline of Physiotherapy adheres to the University of Canberra’s policies on moderation. The standard of assessment in this unit will be equivalent wherever and however the unit is delivered. Assessment will be moderated to ensure that judgments of students’ performance are consistent, transparent, reliable and valid. Participation requirements
All Physiotherapy practical classes require compulsory attendance unless otherwise specified. Please let your tutor know if you will be absent as a courtesy.
It is the students' responsibility to make up any missed material, and to recognise that all lecture and practical material is examinable.
Required IT skills
Students will need access to computer/s with internet access. Learning materials are provided on Canvas (UCLearn) and assignments are uploaded in Canvas.
Students will also require skills in word programs and referencing programs for completion of assignments. Endnote referencing software is available through the UC Library (although not compulsory).
