Learning outcomesAfter successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Define the physical and chemical properties of various materials used in the building construction industry;
2. Apply numerical processes to solve fundamental building construction management problems;
3. Develop and report on monitoring schemes used to assess the workplace environment; and
4. Communicate, through written means, how codes and risk assessment processes can be used to develop and maintain and safe and healthy work environment.

Workshop assessment items are to be submitted at the completion of the workshop class.
Special assessment requirements
Students must achieve an overall unit mark of 50 % or higher to pass this unit.
Students must achieve at least 50% for the final test to be eligible to pass this unit.
To gain the most from the unit is advised that students attend all lectures and workshops.
As the workshops have graded activities it is important students attend all weekly workshops so that the most can be gained from the learning activities and so that the workshop assessment item can be completed.
Required IT skills
All students are assumed to have basic computer and calculator skills.
For this unit a non-graphical and non-programable calculator is required for each student.
