Learning outcomes
After successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:1. Synthesise and explain the working of relevant laws in the selected field, the policies behind the laws and their place in the system of justice;
2. Determine the implications of legal issues in the selected field, including where relevant international obligations in that field; and
3. Critically analyse and solve complex problems in the selected field and to explore particular topics in the selected field in depth.

Required texts
The unit text is 'Government Contracts: Federal, State and Local' (Federation Press, 7th ed, 2023) by Nicholas Seddon. Its published by the Federation Press and can be ordered from the following web site: https://www.federationpress.com.au/bookstore/book.asp?isbn=9781760021634Links to an extrnal site.Copies of previous editions are often available 2nd hand. The 5th edition (2013) is serviceable but will not address the changes in the Government Procurement Judicial Review Act or the material from the Williams No 1 and Williams No 2 decisions. Copies can usually be picked up from the Lifeline Book Fair. Students will be introduced to reading material prior to commencement of the unit and during the teaching period, with information in lectures and on Canvas (check the 'Reading List').

The unit is taught on an intensive basis. Extensions will not be granted without a formal UC Extension Request Form.

Use of Text-Matching Software
The University of Canberra uses text-matching software to help students and staff reduce plagiarism and improve understanding of academic integrity. The software matches submitted text in student assignments against material from various sources: the internet, published books and journals, and previously submitted student texts.
Learner engagement
This unit is taught on an intensive basis, with all content being delivered in only two weeks, from 6:30pm to8:30pm on Monday and Thursday, and 1.30pm to 3.30pm Saturday. Despite being taught in a two week period, students should expect to invest the time required for a 3 credit point unit. Students are strongly recommended to watch the video lectures and commence the readings prior to the Workshops
Participation requirements
Assessment will relate to lectures and workshops, Workshops focus on in person, small group activities. Students who choose not attend the workshops in person will be at a disadvantage.

This unit will require research using on-line materials. Assessment exercises are expected to be submitted as pdfs
