In this unit social entrepreneurship and enterprise has a student driven approach in which students as are required to undertake and community group project of min 40 hours. The students will apply innovative methods and business knowledge, tools and entrepreneurial principles to address a social impact and economic challenges for a given problems, whilst creating social change and shared meaning, value and sustainability and social responsibility. The focus is on co-production and collaboration and each student is under the supervision of a professional practitioner/mentor. Each student will need to source a social enterprise and professional mentor to help explore how social entrepreneurs apply lean start-up for social impact. Students will be involved in planning, operational and undertake work practices, as well as the implementation and evaluation activities of their own work and that of the business and project.

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Identify, design, plan, implement, evaluate and reflect on a community based project that meets the goals of the organisation, target segments, business models, and social business and understand the overarching context in which social businesses operate;
2. Analyse the individual's and group's performance of the leadership, management and human related practices, outcomes achieved and identify how could be improved and reflect on social impact and how this project helped toward improving society;
3. Working individually and in groups, undertakes appropriate cultural competence to enable them to participate ethically and effectively in personal, community and professional intercultural settings;
4. Communicate their experience both orally and in written form, with confidence and clarity;
5. Demonstrate entrepreneurial skills including creativity, initiative, critical thinking, adaptability, leadership, and resourcefulness; and
