Professional Practice Capstone Project Secondary Education PG (11359.2)

This unit is the culminating experience for initial teacher education students within the Master of Secondary Teaching. The unit provides the final school-based experience of 20 days within a Secondary school setting. This 20 day capstone experience will allow pre-service teachers to apply their professional skills and to carry out an investigation of a personally chosen topic in an educational context. Furthermore, the pre-service teachers will be assessed against the Teacher Performance Assessment (TPA) that will require them to provide evidence that demonstrates that they are classroom ready.

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Operate autonomously using expert judgement, adaptability and responsibility in planning, decision making and curriculum engagement;
2. Conduct an investigative project regarding a real school issue through application of knowledge and research principles; and
3. Satisfy evidence based achievement of the Teacher Performance Assessment to demonstrate competence for entering the profession.

Prerequisites

This unit is only available to students in the Master of Secondary Teaching course who have passed 36 credit points AND meet the following requirement.

Have completed either:
- 2 teaching method units and 11696 Engaging with LANTITE G,
or
- 1 teaching method unit and 11360 School Placement PG and 11696 Engaging with LANTITE G.
