Sharing Contemporary Knowledge in Midwifery PG (11315.1)

The student will critically examine various forms of knowledge construction, acquisition and dissemination in childbearing and midwifery. Applying knowledge of a variety of theoretical approaches including research methods, students explore how childbearing women, midwives and other health professionals come to 'know' and how they share their knowledge with each other. This unit provides the research training necessary to progress to the Research Project in Health PG, 9592.

This unit is co-taught with 11300 Contemporary Knowledge in Midwifery.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Discuss and compare different ways of knowing;
2. Evaluate the different purposes, features and applications of a broad range of research methods;
3. Critically appraise and synthesise evidence related to contemporary midwifery practice;
4. Formulate research questions that will extend the midwifery knowledge base; and
5. Demonstrate advanced communication skills for midwifery work including the appropriate use of technology.
