In this unit you will have workshops in cinema equipment and industrial filmmaking methods and techniques for drama production, alongside sessions designed to aid and expand your conceptual thinking and storytelling abilities. You will also develop an understanding of what it is to collaborate with actors in a film production context. You will work in small groups to produce short live action drama productions. By the end of the unit you will have developed an understanding that in filmmaking every creative and technical decision matters.
Learning outcomes
After successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:1. Produce the documentation for pre production of a short film;
2. Analyse the director actor relationship;
3. Critically assess and evaluate different forms, styles and genres of drama production; and
4. Work collaboratively in small creative teams, demonstrating advanced problem solving necessary to produce short drama productions.

Skills development
This unit explores scripted drama film production... as such the roles become more complex, the collaborations more critical and the group work just more. So as well as considering the usual graduate attributes adressing technical skills, we should underline those attributes that focus on communication, ambiguity and ethics.

This unit assumes a level of IT skill commensurate with a pass in the units Film Tools and Documentary Production.

All students should own an external hardrive (or two), to back up all of their footage and assignments.
