Required texts
Required readings will be provided via UC Learn (Canvas).
There is no required textbook for this unit; however, if you wish to learn more about project management, Hartley, S. (2018). Project management: A practical guide to planning and managing projects (4th ed.). Allen & Unwin is recommended as an additional resource.
Students must apply academic integrity in their learning and research activities at UC. This includes submitting authentic and original work for assessments and properly acknowledging any sources used.
Academic integrity involves the ethical, honest and responsible use, creation and sharing of information. It is critical to the quality of higher education. Our academic integrity values are honesty, trust, fairness, respect, responsibility and courage.
UC students have to complete the Academic Integrity Module annually to learn about academic integrity and to understand the consequences of academic integrity breaches (or academic misconduct).
UC uses various strategies and systems, including detection software, to identify potential breaches of academic integrity. Suspected breaches may be investigated, and action can be taken when misconduct is found to have occurred.
Information is provided in the Academic Integrity Policy, Academic Integrity Procedure, and University of Canberra (Student Conduct) Rules 2023. For further advice, visit Study Skills.
Inclusion and engagement
The values of inclusion and respect for diversity are central to the University, and particularly within this unit.
The University of Canberra has outlined the following commitment to fostering an environment which supports all students. This includes a committment to;
- Recognise, encourage and celebrate students from all sections of society;
- Promote an environment that fosters fairness, equity and respect for social and cultural diversity;
- Support students and staff to reach their full potential through the promotion of reasonable expectations and provision of an inclusive learning environment
- Offer programs that aim to overcome disadvantage for student and staff equity groups; and
- Ensure that staff and students are aware of their rights and responsibilities as members of the University community
More information about Equity and Diversity at the University of Canberra is available here: http://www.canberra.edu.au/about-uc/equity-diversity
In addition, class rosters and University data systems are provided to instructors with students legal names and gender indiciations. However, knowing that not all students use their legal names or sex/gender assigned at birth, teaching staff in this unit are happy to use the name and/or pronouns that you use. We will take time during our first class together to do introductions, at which point you can share with all members of our learning community what name and pronouns you use. Additionally, if these change at any point during the semester, please us know and we can develop a way to share this information with others in a way that is comfortable and safe for you.
Participation requirements
While attendance at tutorials is not compulsory, it may be difficult to pass the unit without regular attendance as all assessments have components that will be worked upon during class time. In particular:
-
Project briefs for A1 and A2 will be allocated in Week 3 + 6 tutorials respectively.
-
Groups for A2 will be formed based on Week 6 tutorials.
-
A2 Part A requires attendance and participation at group meetings and team WIPs with your tutor as part of the marking criteria.
Required IT skills
This unit will require the use of video conferencing technology and project management software. Project management software will be covered in class as part of the unit content.
