This unit is delivered through technical exercises that are orientated to assist students' understanding of the relations between construction as a hierarchical set of relationships, constructive systems and the necessary sequences of management processes. Throughout the unit, students explore the details, processes and steps required to convert design proposals into production documentation as expected by industry standards.

During the three prescribed technical exercises, students produce a range of documents typically required to structure a development application. On completing the unit, students individually and collectively demonstrate proficient skills in the management of BIM software.

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Actively participate in the collaborative and collective production of various documents;
2. Research, test and explain the constructive role and design relevance of interior technologies of atmospheric control through technical drawing (lighting, acoustics, thermal control etc.);
3. Explore and experiment with subjective representations of atmospheric conditions in space;
4. Test multiple strategies of graphic appropriation that professionally represents technical and constructive processes; and
5. Use and evaluate appropriate BIM software in the production of documentation that represents interior space to current recognised industry standard.

Inclusion and engagement

Brisbane students who need assistance in undertaking the unit because of disability or an ongoing health condition register with TAFE Queensland Student Support Services as soon as possible so that reasonable adjustment arrangements can be made.

Participation requirements

Participation in lectures and tutorials is expected as class discussion and particupation will be integral to success in this unit.

The unit will incorporate asynchronous pre-recorded lectures, to be watched each week before class on Friday. Tutorials will be held on campus in a designated computer lab, this will enable access to software needed for the teaching of this unit. attendance and particpation in tutoials is essential to gaingin a pass grade in this unit.

Required IT skills

Revit Software will be taught in this unit and it will be a requirement for the assessment items that you use this software. Access to this software will be provided on University Computer Lab computers. Alternatively students may download a free educational version of Revit on to their personal laptop should they have one.

Announcements

Announcements made during tutorials/practicals, or sent to your University of Canberra student email address, will be deemed to have been made to the whole group. Students are responsible for regularly checking their UC student email and the Canvas page each week.

Consultation with Staff

Contact with staff should generally be within the allocated class times. Consultation outside of these hours shall be made by prior appointment, and in addition to, not in lieu of, the scheduled class time. Students who fail to attend classes, and who do not have a medical or counsellor's certificate or other genuine reason for missing classes, should not expect additional tutorial or consultation time.

Please note: staff are not able to return calls to long distance or mobile telephone numbers after normal hours or on weekends or holidays. Emails are not normally checked or answered at nights, on weekends or on public holidays.

Teaching staff (and particularly part-time staff) may not be able to attend to phone calls or reply to emails immediately. Please ensure any urgent matters are brought to their attention within the allocated class time, or request assistance by emailing the Unit Convener.

Late Collection of Assignments

Designers, and design students, are expected to take responsibility for their work. In the context of the design studios, this is considered to include both submitting the work on time, and collecting it following assessment.

Collection times will be advised for submissions where appropriate. Where a project/assignment is not collected by that time, the project may be discarded without further notice.

This penalty will not apply when prior arrangements have been made with the Unit Convener, or when the work is being retained, such as for accreditation.

Clean Up

Project materials are to be cleared away at the end of each studio session. Unless work is identified for retention by staff, work not collected at this time will be disposed of.

In addition, studios are to be cleared of work and generally cleaned up at the end of each semester. Projects not removed by the advertised date may be discarded without further notice.

Courtesy in Tutorials/Studios

All mobile phones are to be turned off during seminar presentations and group discussion sessions. Laptop computers may only be used for purposes directly related to the seminar/group discussion (i.e. no games, emailing, internet browsing etc.).
