PrerequisitesMust have completed 24 credits in a Public Health, Human Nutrition or Health Science Degree, or equivalent.

Submission of assessment items

Students will complete a mid-term exam (Assessment 2) which will submitted via Canvas.
Use of text matching software
Penalties for late submission will be in line with Faculty of Health guidelines and policies.
All assessment items will be moderated as outlined in the Faculty of Health Moderation Guidelines.
Students will undertake a 45-hour applied health promotion project during weeks 9-13 as a mandatory requirement for this unit. Students will work in groups on a project located on-campus or with a local community agency.
Students will be required to attend lectures and tutorials in weeks 1-7. Some preparatory work for the project design will occur during weeks 1 - 7.
There will be a mid-term test in week 9 in the lecture period.
There will be a mandatory project orientation in the tutorial session in week 9.
There will be no lectures in weeks 10 - 13.
Students working on their intervention project can use the tutorials in week 10 - 13 to gain input from the project mentor.
Student participation in both lecture and tutorial activities will enhance understanding of the unit content and the quality of assessment responses. Lack of participation may compromise ability to satisfactorily pass assessment items.
Student participation in all aspects of this unit is vital to this unit as is professionalism, maturity in the workplace and respect for colleagues/peers.

Work placement, internships or practicums
A Working with Vulnerable People background check is mandatory for this unit, as students may undertake projects related to vulnerable people. The practical component for this unit may involve engagement with community agencies and/or community members, therefore, additional student responsibilities are required in addition to those described in this section.
Work-place learning requires strict adherence to professional practice principles and ethics. Client confidentiality (in relevant workplaces and environments) must always be maintained, including for assessment items such as reports or essays. The professional nature of this unit requires availability to commit to 45 hours of campus- or community-based activity between Weeks 9 and 13. Note, however, there is flexibility with the intervention project as students will be working in small groups on a selected project. Restrictions related to COVID-19 may also affect how projects are able to be conducted. If you know that attendance requirements cannot be satisfied for any reason, it is recommended that you meet with your Unit Convener to schedule this unit for a future semester.
